Dog Show in San Miguel de Allende

Women of the Dog Show in San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende is a city of contrasts. There are many, of course, but the one most visible to me in my weekend trip was the contrast between Mexicans living and working in the city and the huge number of American residents and visitors. Where better to experience this contrast than at the city’s annual dog show?  I found the contrasts jarring but maybe you’ll have a different reaction. See the photos below and feel free to click through the slide show at bottom.

Weekend in San Miguel de Allende

Is there a more picturesque town than San Miguel de Allende? Taking photos in this town is too easy.

Snorkeling in Sian Ka’an

Snorkeling in Sian Ka'an

I just returned from eight days in Mexico. This shot from the Sian Ka’an Nature Reserve about two hours south of Tulum on the Caribbean. Highly recommend making a trip down there if you’re in the neighborhood.

Smiling in the Shadow of Machu Picchu

I recently took a step into the present by embracing Adobe Lightroom 2 for my photo workflow. As a result, I’ve been digging through the archives and tagging photos from years ago. I came across these two — I think I may have missed them when I posted the gallery in 2006.

You Should Hear This … Sabali by Amadou and Mariam

My man Caleb turned me on to Amadou and Mariam a few months ago, and I just got my hands on this song from their Welcome to Mali album. It takes a while, but the bass drops in at 01:37 and kicks from there. Can’t get that beat out of my head.

Sabali by Amadou and Mariam

UPDATE: Adam sent me the info about a mixtape by Theophilus London sampling this track — I’ve uploaded it here: Grey X Sage by Theophilus London.

I played photo association (like word association) while listening to it and pulled these three out of the archives (as always, click on any image to enlarge it, and click one side of it to advance):
