San Miguel de Allende is a city of contrasts. There are many, of course, but the one most visible to me in my weekend trip was the contrast between Mexicans living and working in the city and the huge number of American residents and visitors. Where better to experience this contrast than at the city’s annual dog show? I found the contrasts jarring but maybe you’ll have a different reaction. I just returned from eight days in Mexico. This shot from the Sian Ka’an Nature Reserve about two hours south of Tulum on the Caribbean. Highly recommend making a trip down there if you’re in the neighborhood.
I recently took a step into the present by embracing Adobe Lightroom 2 for my photo workflow. As a result, I’ve been digging through the archives and tagging photos from years ago. I came across these two — I think I may have missed them when I posted the gallery in 2006.
My man Caleb turned me on to Amadou and Mariam a few months ago, and I just got my hands on this song from their Welcome to Mali album. It takes a while, but the bass drops in at 01:37 and kicks from there. Can’t get that beat out of my head.
